Workshop on SLASS Planning and Development

The School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) organized a day-long workshop on ‘SLASS Planning and Development’ on 11 February 2021 for all the SLASS full-time faculty members and administrative staff. The workshop was held in the IUB digital classroom from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Professor Taiabur Rahman, Dean, SLASSS chaired the workshop. Bengali Beauty is the FIRST feature film from Bangladesh to have been selected for streaming by Amazon Prime. It is the ONLY Bangla language feature film to have been commercially screened in BOTH the United States and United Kingdom (in multiple theaters for TWO straight weeks) and the ONLY Bangla language feature film to have been commercially screened in CHINA (in over 700 screens, for SEVEN straight weeks). A study tour was organized for the students of GSG 321 on 18 November 2019. GSG 321: International Terrorism and Counter Terrorism course has been designed to give a clear and comprehensive introduction to the complex issues surrounding terrorism with an analytical evaluation to achieve learning of following: learn the definition of terrorism; learn the context and origin of terrorism; understand the typology and theories of terrorism; comprehend counter-terrorism tactics; explore the different trajectories and pathways. Greta Green Global Day Observed at IUB

The ‘Greta Green Global Day’ was observed on October 24, 2019 at IUB’s own campus in Bashundhara R/A, Dhaka. The daylong event was organized by the Global Studies and Governance (GSG) Program of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) at IUB. IUB Hosts Seminar on Major Challenges of Dhaka

Global Studies & Governance (GSG) Program organized a daylong seminar on 18 November, 2019 on sustainable urban planning titled "The New Megacity: for Whom" in collaboration with the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), UNESCO, and IHE DELFT.  Four University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) professors including the Dean, School of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs presented their research papers. IUB faculty represents South Asia in ‘Global Korean Cinema‘ Conference

Professor Zakir Hossain Raju joined ‘Global Korean Cinema’ conference commemorating 100 years of Korean Cinema in Seoul during October 25-27, 2019. He was invited as the only speaker from South Asia in this conference. The first screening of the earliest Korean film ‘Fight for Justice’ took place on October 2019. This year Korean Film Council and Committee for Korean Film 100 Years are celebrating the first century of Korean cinema in South Korea. USAID Media and Youth Outreach Tour

USAID Media and Youth Outreach Tour by Subaita Fairooz Six students from the Department of Media and Communication took part in the USAID Media and Youth Outreach Tour in Jashore from July 24 to July 25, 2019. We were selected from the Development Communication and Journalism streams of the department. The first component of our tour revolved around aquaculture and the second part involved sustainable agriculture practices. A daylong conference titled "Quadrangulated Quandary" was held at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at the university campus in Bashundhara R/A, Dhaka.
