IUB faculty represents South Asia in ‘Global Korean Cinema‘ Conference

Professor Zakir Hossain Raju joined ‘Global Korean Cinema’ conference commemorating 100 years of Korean Cinema in Seoul during October 25-27, 2019. He was invited as the only speaker from South Asia in this conference. The first screening of the earliest Korean film ‘Fight for Justice’ took place on October 2019. This year Korean Film Council and Committee for Korean Film 100 Years are celebrating the first century of Korean cinema in South Korea. USAID Media and Youth Outreach Tour by Subaita Fairooz Six students from the Department of Media and Communication took part in the USAID Media and Youth Outreach Tour in Jashore from July 24 to July 25, 2019. We were selected from the Development Communication and Journalism streams of the department. The first component of our tour revolved around aquaculture and the second part involved sustainable agriculture practices. To encourage and guide young scholars, the Department of Media and Communication (DMC) and the Center for Social Science and Research (CSSR) organized a talk on “Pursuing PhD Education in the U.S: Opportunities for Bangladeshi Young Scholars”. The program addressing the Lecturers and prospective PhD candidates of Independent University, Bangladesh was held on July 29, 2019. IUB Korean Club members at the 30th International Youth Forum in South Korea

This week two IUB students namely Nushin Zinnia and Faizaa Fariya Hridi are taking part at the 30th International Youth Forum in Seoul, South Korea that will end on the 23rd of July 2019. They are there to represent IUB as well as Bangladesh. Both Nushin and Faiza attended the course ‘KRN 112: Korean Cinema and Society’ taught by Professor Zakir Hossain Raju. Prof. Raju established this unique course (only such course in South Asia) in 2015 and later he also founded IUB K-club in 2016 with the graduates of this course to explore the Korean culture in Bangladesh.
