Dept of Media and Communication Hosts Round-table discussion on ‘Current State of Film Education in Europe and Asia’

Department of Media and Communication in collaboration with the Embassy of Germany in Bangladesh organized a Round-table discussion on ‘Current State of Film Education in Europe and Asia’ on the 9th of May, 2019. German filmmaker Micheal Kotowski served as the speaker at the discussion where he focused on the European context of film education.
Prof. Zakir Hossain Raju, Head of the Department of Media and Communication; Haider Rizvi, Professor and renowned filmmaker; Masihuddin Shaker, renowned filmmaker and Course Director at Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute (BCTI) and Tamara Kabir, Culture and Education officer, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany graced the event.
Faculty members from the department were also present along with other filmmakers and scholars from different universities of Dhaka. Ms Mahmuda Roma from Dhaka University, Mr N Rashed Chowdhury from Jagannath University and Mr Bikash C. Bhowmik as well as Mr Shajjad Ahsan from University of Liberal Arts took part in the roundtable.
The discussion brought about several issues regarding the challenges and limitations that surround filmmaking and film studies education in Asia and Europe today.
