Dr. Mahbub Alam and Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk Presented Two Papers at a Prestigious Conference in Sri Lanka

Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean of School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) and Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Senior Lecturer (Sociology), SLASS have presented two papers titled Local Knowledge and Conflict Resolution in Rural Communities of Bangladesh and Local Rice Varieties in Climate Vulnerable Areas of Bangladesh: Prospects and Barriers at a conference organized by the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka in Oluvil, Ampara held on December 7 to 8, 2017. The title of the conference was International Symposium on Multidisciplinary Research for Sustainable Development. The co-authors of the paper on local knowledge are Professor Paul Sillitoe from Durham University and Dr. Roger Lewins from University of Portsmouth and of the paper on rice varieties is Mr. Md. Kamruzzaman from Climate Change Unit, Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB). The conference has provided an opportunity for the academics from a range of disciplines and countries to share their research as well as to receive informal in-depth feedback through discussions and to enable them to establish contact with professionals in other countries and institutions. This conglomeration has also opened a horizon for building global network and disseminating ideas as well as provided a global exposure for the participants and for the institutions too.
