Talk on Rabindranath Tagore held at IUB

The School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a Talk entitled “Photography and Iconic Personality: Rabindranath Tagore” on February 5, 2018 at IUB’s own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Prof. Malavika Karlekar, the Editor of the Indian Journal of Gender Studies at the Centre for Women’s Development Studies, New Delhi, delivered the talk.
Prof. Karlekar hails from a distinguished Bengali family of Kolkata closely associated with the Bengal renaissance of the 19th and early 20th century. Her scholarly publications contain a wealth of visual and textual information, especially for researchers in the fields of history, sociology and gender studies.
At the outset of the program, Prof. M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB and Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) delivered the welcome remarks. Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Sr. Lecturer of SLASS introduced the Speaker to the audience.
During her session, through the sets of extremely rare photographs, Dr. Karlekar presented the legendary life of Rabindranath Tagore that started from the poet’s childhood. Therefore the audience witnessed Tagore’s splendid accomplishments live on the screen.
Following the presentation, floor was open for question-answer session. Academics, Trustees of the University, senior members of the faculty and administration and a full-house students attended the program.
