How can IUB Department of Media and Communication transform to become a leading media education hub nationally and regionally? That was core of discussion in the Faculty Lounge of School of Liberal Arts and Social sciences on 22nd October 2017 among the fulltime and adjunct faculty members of the media and communication department. This was a dialogue on courses and curriculum development chaired by the Head of the department Professor Zakir Hossain Raju. The meeting began with renowned adjunct faculties namely Mr. Shahnoor Wahid, Ali Haider Rizvi, Naila Azad Nupur, Parsa Sajid, Menon Mahmood, Dr. Fahmidul Haque who has previously taught courses or currently teaching courses. The Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social sciences of IUB Dr. Mahbub Alam has also graced the event along with the co-operation from other faculty members of the department.
The senior Faculty members from the department namely Tasneem L. Shahrukh, Faria Hossain Khan along with the Head of the department demonstrated different means of existing curriculum and teaching practices. These included courses offered in department, IRAS (Integrated Registrar’s Office Automation System) and Virtual Learning Platform.
Following the discussion, floor was open for question and answer session where both permanent and adjunct faculties participated ardently. Mr. Shahnoor Wahid, renowned journalist who is currently teaching courses urges for strengthening bonding between media industry and academia. Well-known actress and media personality Naila Azad Nupur urged the department to think globally and take initiative to make the classes more interactive. Other faculty members also shared their knowledge to enhance courses and curriculum both in undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The event brought about many insightful thoughts to turn the Department a prominent institution in South Asia. At the end of the program, the Head of the department Professor Zakir Hossain Raju emphasized on greater cooperation among all faculty members to achieve the department’s desired goals.
