IUB Celebrates International Women’s Day

On occasion of International Women’s Day, The School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the Independent University, Bangladesh organized a Seminar entitled ‘Balance for Better’ on March 10, 2019 in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Ms. Rokeya Kabir, Executive Director, Bangladesh Nari Pragati Shangha was the Keynote Speaker.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change”, which puts innovation by women and girls, for women and girls, at the heart of efforts to achieve gender equality.
In her presentation, Ms. Kabir, stated that there should be political voice and platform for women and the participation of women needs to be enhanced in decision making processes. She informed the audience that women’s incredible resilience, selflessness and innovative spirit contributed to Bangladesh’s progress in many areas. In order to sustain this progress and make this nation strong, self-reliant and dynamic works need to be done remove all kinds of discrimination and obstacles that prevent women from realizing their full potential.
Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB appreciated that women in Bangladesh are showing the path and leading from the front in Bangladesh’s sustainable development. He informed the audience that representation of girls in high school level is similar to boys. But at the higher education level, this scenario is quite discouraging. We all need to work on these issues, Prof. Rahman underscored.
